On the Paranormal Debate?

Believer Agnostic or Atheist? It’s not about being right or wrong… It’s just about interesting differences in perspectives. Don’t worry, you’ll still go to heaven!

Sceptics and believers have been struggling for more than 100 years to show whether or not psychic powers exist. You might have imagined that a century of work would have led somewhere, wouldn’t you?

It’s like the argument between those who believe in God and those who don’t. People argue at cross-purposes. If you believe, you’ll stand your ground, and the same goes for atheists.

You can’t prove a belief in the spiritual or in the paranormal by Newtonian scientific methods, which look at material things by using measured data. The psychic field is unseen to the human eye, but that does not mean that it does not exist.

According to one large poll taken by an American online meditation and yoga portal, the number of people in a country such as the United States that believe in psychic powers such as telepathy and clairvoyance is well over 90%.

Even rigorous university Gallup surveys have shown that 3 in 4 Americans profess at least one paranormal belief, the most popular being extrasensory perception, followed closely by belief in haunted houses. Even taking into consideration the early establishment of the United States as a religious community, I believe the statistics would be similar in many countries.

About half of all those who responded to surveys said they had some personal experience with real psychic phenomena, 15% said they were regularly experiencing psychic abilities and about 30% said that they had at least some psychic experiences. Nearly half of US women claim they have felt the presence of a spirit.

The list of areas mentioned in polls included: belief in reincarnation, belief in spiritual energy located in physical things, belief in yoga as spiritual practice, belief in astrology, having been in touch with the dead, consulting a psychic, or experiencing a ghostly encounter.

It seems to me that progress in Quantum physics — I am definitely not pretending to be an expert — will lead to a greater understanding and belief in psychic phenomena in general.

One of my mentors, Carl Gustav Jung, had the courage to propose that our mind is guided by a system of forms, the archetypes, which are powerful, even though they don’t have mass, and which are real, even though they are invisible.

I like to think that Quantum Physics is more than just physics: it seems to be a new form of mysticism, which suggests the state of all things being connected and the connection of our minds with a cosmic mind.

I haven’t always thought like this. I was the original Doubting Thomas, and have been, by turns, an agnostic, a believer, an atheist, and every type of mystic, during the first part of my life on this planet.

It’s a hard-won belief or knowledge, and it has made my life whole.

Is it really a debate or not? Why?What do you htink is the author’s opinion on the topic? What is Quantum Physics? What is your opinion on this subject? Why is it so difficult to come to an agreement on the issue?
