This is a pertinent story for northern hemisphere dwellers who are coming into winter soon. It’s from a Down Under dweller with a good-luck story and precious advice about creating immunity from Covid.
I live in Australia, and our winter in 2021 was a nightmare for increased Covid infections, hospitalizations and deaths that year. I was doing all the right things in terms of getting fully vaccinated for the Covid virus and for the flu. Two or three relatives were anti vaxxers, and I was about to come in contact with one of them, at my daughter’s place.
It was the first week of the school holidays in May of that year. I’d promised my daughter, who works full time, that I would stay at her place to look after her two boys during the first week of the holidays. Her ex, who lives nearby, was about to go into rehab for an addiction. He would take over childminding in the second week. Trouble was, when he got to the clinic, after having spent hours with us — my daughter, their two sons and me — he discovered that he had tested positive to Covid 19.
I had to spend another week in a Covid positive household, looking after the whole family, cooking and cleaning. One by one, Kate and the two boys succumbed to the nasty virus. The younger boy was the sickest, but he got over it quickly.
I’d been taking naturopathic tablets for extra immunity for several months leading up to this time. My husband was on the same regime. Neither of us had caught the virus. I’d sought advice from a well-known medical doctor/naturopath, Dr Sandra Cabot, in Sydney, about what minerals and vitamins we should take. Vitamin C, Zinc,Vitamin D, and Selenium.
In the nineties I was healing from long-term depression. Around that time, I found a book by a medical doctor, who was also a naturopath, which helped me improve my diet. The Liver Cleansing Diet, by Doctor Sandra Cabot had quickly become a best-seller. My health improved along with my moods.
Almost three decades later, I’m still following that doctor for advice from time to time.
One of her suggestions for warding off the Covid 19 virus and the flu, was to take 5 ingredients in capsule form to increase your immunity to viral infections. I chose her own brand of supplements from a local wholesale chemist, however other brands might do the job just as well. As you can see, her recommended 5 ingredients are: Quercetin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Zinc and Selenium.
My husband and I took two capsules daily, the first containing the first 4 ingredients, the second one with Selenium only. We were already taking Vitamin D. But after one week away from home, I ran out of my medications, and had to purchase a different type from the local pharmacist where my daughter lives.
During the two weeks that I shared the house with my 40 year-old daughter, my 13 year-old and 10 year-old grandsons, I was very busy. The boys’ father, also 40, was isolating in his house.
Ironically, I was the only one out of the five of us who came in contact with Covid who did not test positive to the virus. And I’m 78. I put this down to the fact of having boosted my immune system with the items mentioned above.
I need to add that, following on from advice, Quercetin can be replaced by other ingredients, such as Andrographis. If you are already taking Vitamin D, adding Echinacea to the mix might also be a good idea.
Make sure that you take two capsules from the Immune Defence bottle, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon, and one from the Selenium container.
I found that this regime built up my immune defence to the extent that I withstood an aggressive onslaught from Covid19. I was the only one in a Covid household of young people over a fortnightly period, who did not test positive to the virus. I am 78. See my story on my Medium page.
Dear friends in the Northern Hemisphere, don’t forget to keep your hands clean and wear a mask in large crowds, if so advised by authorities.
Don’t forget to take all precautions recommended by health professionals, such as wearing masks, keeping hands clean, and, of course, keeping up with vaccinations.
If you drink alcohol, you should probably take two of the Immune Defence capsules, one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Only one of the Selenium, however.
Choose cafes and restaurants that are open to the air whenever possible.
Don’t be a vaccination denier. As well as being fully vaccinated against Covid and the Flu, take 5 extra ingredients: 1 or 2 capsules daily of an Immune Defence tablet, for example, one containing Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D, and Quercetin, and a separate capsule containing Selenium. This will get you through the winter corridor of germs, viruses and colds with flare.

Of course, all of these precautions won’t stop you from getting the virus, but it might make it less serious and prevent long-term effects from setting in. There are always people around you carrying the virus, often some who haven’t been tested. I succumbed to it, not long after having given up on the naturopathic regime: Yes, I became lazy and tired of taking so many tablets in the end. The illness lasted three weeks and it shocked me the way it floored me and left me without energy and with a loss of appetite and mojo.
Try to avoid getting this virus, as it’s not pleasant, much worse than the flu. If you are young, you will probably get over it sooner, but remember us oldies, who might also catch it from you.
